Portfolio check: how would your portfolio have ranked among all allocations of its securities?

Check your portfolio yourself, without an adviser and without connecting your bank: enter what is in it. Paperball runs it through real prices, after costs and taxes, and puts it next to every other allocation of the same securities. This is not an advisory meeting and not your bank's portfolio review — you get no product suggestion, and the decision stays with you.

What you find out

  • Your rank per metric

Paperball calculates your portfolio in the same run as every allocation of the same securities and shows your rank per metric — for example “top 12%” for the Sharpe ratio.

  • Metrics after costs and taxes

Return, volatility, maximum drawdown, Sharpe and Sortino — with order fees, rebalancing and the tax mechanics of 8 countries.

  • The other allocations alongside

Next to your portfolio you see the allocations of the same securities, sorted by the metric that matters to you.

A sample portfolio with real prices

World equities, euro government bonds and gold — calculated next to all 21 allocations of the same three securities in steps of 20%. This is where the sample portfolio ranks per metric:

  • 60 %World equities
  • 20 %Euro government bonds
  • 20 %Gold
  • Return p.a.Top 34 %Rank 7 of 21
  • VolatilityTop 53 %Rank 11 of 21
  • Maximum drawdownTop 62 %Rank 13 of 21
  • Sharpe ratioTop 24 %Rank 5 of 21

The same portfolio ranks differently for each metric: far ahead on the Sharpe ratio, in the back half on maximum drawdown. That is why there is no overall verdict — you decide which metric counts for you.

This is how the portfolio check shows where your portfolio stands: for each metric, its rank among all allocations of the same securities.

Prices from 13 Nov 2009 to 7 Oct 2026 in euros, starting capital €10,000, annual rebalancing, without order fees and taxes; Sharpe ratio with a risk-free rate of 2 %. Past results are no indication of future ones.

How it works

  1. Collect the securities in your portfolio

Add the ETFs, funds and stocks from your portfolio to your Watchlist by ISIN or ticker. If a long price history is missing, you add it from a file.

    More about the Watchlist
  2. Enter your portfolio

Enter the shares in percent or the amounts invested — Paperball works out the allocation from them. You save your portfolio as a template for the next check.

  3. Compare and keep going

The result shows your rank per metric. You save your portfolio under “My portfolios” and project it forward in the Monte Carlo simulation.

Questions about the portfolio check

What does the portfolio check look at?

How the allocation of your portfolio would have performed with historical prices and where it ranks per metric among all allocations of the same securities. There is no overall verdict — you decide which metric matters to you.

Is the portfolio check financial advice?

No. At banks, consumer advice centres or fee-based advisers, a portfolio check is usually a conversation: someone assesses your portfolio and suggests changes. Paperball does not assess anything and suggests nothing. You calculate yourself how the allocation of your portfolio and every other allocation of the same securities would have performed in the past — the decision stays with you.

What does the portfolio check not look at?

Whether your portfolio suits your goals, your investment horizon and your appetite for risk — Paperball does not ask about that; only an adviser can judge it. The portfolio check does not rate individual funds either and does not suggest replacements. It only calculates with the securities you enter and only with their past price history.

Do I have to connect my portfolio to Paperball?

No. You enter the securities by ISIN or ticker and give shares or amounts invested. Paperball does not access any account at your bank.

Does Paperball tell me what to reallocate?

No. Paperball shows how allocations would have performed in the past and recommends none. Past results are no indication of future ones.

What does the portfolio check cost?

A portfolio check is a backtest and costs credits. With the starter credits you get when you sign up, your first checks are free — including with the securities in your own portfolio, chosen freely from more than 80,000. After that you buy more credits or take a subscription — see all prices.
